Wings students present their literary project

Desert Willow gifted students in the new Wings program took part in a recent literary project. Students were inspired by Tibetan Prayer Flags and famous people throughout history. The students read and listened to works from individuals such as Martin Luther King Jr. and poet Langston Hughes. While studying the works of others, students were asked to contemplate the unique lives and experiences of those authors that led to their pieces.

After gathering inspiration from others, students began writing poems about their own lives and dreams. They then chose pieces of fabric in symbolic colors. Using the fabric students created “Dream Flags” that featured their poem and symbolic illustrations.

The project culminated in an assembly where students shared their flags and read their poems or reflections.  To view all the student created flags, clink on the link below.
